- Brazil beat Argentina 1-0 in a friendly match played on Tuesday night
- Inter Milan defender João Miranda de Souza Filho scored the only goal
- The friendly encounter between these two nations was played in Saudi Arabia
Miranda scored at the death on Tuesday night, October 16, as Brazil defeated rivals Argentina 1-0 in a tough friendly encounter played in Saudi Arabia.
Coached by Tite, the Brazilians seemed to still have the cobwebs from their unconvincing performance against Saudi a few days earlier.
Despite having the lion’s share of possession, both Giovani Lo Celso and Paulo Dybala came close to opening the scoring for Argentina.
Brazil’s best chance fell to Miranda and his effort was cleared off the line by Otamendi.
The 69th minute saw Neymar earn a free kick in a dangerous position. From the resultant free-kick, Arthur lashed a volley toward the Argentinian goal, only to be denied by Serio Romero.
Just as the contest seemed to be ending in a stalemate, Miranda rose highest and headed the winner in the 93rd minute. The victory earned Brazil bragging rights over their fierce rivals as well as the Super classico trophy.
Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Argentina FA made it clear that they will not give any player the No 10 jersey in their hopes of convincing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to make a return to international duty.
Lionel Messi is yet to announce his international retirement but the forward has told the FA that he wants to be excused from playing for the national team for the rest of this year.
