APC members persuade Ali Modu Sheriff to return to party

- APC group describes Ali Sheriff as one of the main sponsors of the defunct ANPP

- The leader of the group, Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, says the former governor’s role in the actualization of the merger to form the APC cannot be over emphasized

- Dr Cairo Ojougboh, the former factional deputy national chairman of the PDP has left the party along with his loyalists

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are pushing for the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, to return to the ruling party.

The group, known as the APC Great Nigeria Group, is trying to persuade Sheriff, who was one of the founding fathers of the APC to return to the party, Leadership reports.

The leader of the group, Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, described Sheriff as one of the main sponsors of the defunct ANPP which later merged with other parties to form the APC.

“Before the consummating of the APC merger, Sen Sheriff was the greatest sponsor of the defunct ANPP and chairman of the Board of Trustees.”

“As chairman of the ANPP Board of Trustees, his roles in the actualization of the merger to form the APC cannot be over emphasized,” Ajumbe said.

Meanwhile, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, the former factional deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has left the party along with his loyalists.

The defectors threw their party cards into the waste bin at Ojougboh's home in Agbor, Ika South local government area of Delta state.

The ceremony was witnessed by the minister of Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South zone. Kachikwu conveyed the goodwill of President Muhammadu Buhari to the defectors.

Chief Hilliard Eta, APC South South national vice chairman, told the defectors that the doors of opportunities in the party were open to the new group to take over Delta 2019 campaign, Daily Trust reports.
