How gallant soldiers saved 55 passengers from death on Oshodi-Apapa expressway

- A bus conveying passengers from Lagos to Aba had a tyre burst which ignited a fire on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway

- Soldiers at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi help douse the fire with extinguishers

- A Federal High Court sitting in Enugu orders accelerated hearing of the case instituted against President Buhari and the Nigerian army

The timely intervention of soldiers at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, saved 55 passengers of a luxury bus belonging to the Young Shall Grow Motors from death in an accident at Charity bus-stop, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

The Guardian reports that the bus which was conveying the passengers from Lagos to Aba on Thursday, September 28, had a tyre burst around 9am, which ignited a fire causing panic among occupants of the vehicle.

But some soldiers at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi rushed to the scene of the fire with extinguishers to douse the inferno.

Narrating how the near death experience occurred, one of the passengers told The Guardian that when the back tyre burst at first, it caused a lot of panic.

She however said the driver’s quick response to the situation saved the lives of the occupants of the vehicle.

The passenger also commended the soldiers who came to their rescue.

Officials of the Lagos state fire service later arrived the scene of the incident to complement the efforts of the soldiers.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has ordered accelerated hearing of the case instituted against President Muhammadu Buhari, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Yusuf Buratai and the Nigerian army by Ala Igbo Development Foundation (ADF).

Justice A.M Liman, who presided, in granting leave to the plaintiff to serve the defendants by substituted means, also ordered accelerated hearing of the case.

It is expected that when the plaintiff has complied with the order of the court for substituted service, the court will then fix a definite date for hearing.

Recall that the ADF had on September 14, 2017 sued the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Nigerian army, and the chief of army staff.
