Lawmakers' exotic cars bought for N6.1billion develop faults 3 months after delivery

- Some of the official cars recently bought by the House of Representative members have developed faults

- The exotic cars were bought for N17 million apiece and the lots cost N6.1billion

- Members reportedly started complaining of faults in the cars just weeks after taking delivery

Some of the cars bought delivered to members of the Nigeria's House of Representatives for N6.1 billion have reportedly started malfunctioning three months after delivery.

The cars were bought for 17 million each and the first 240 out of 360 were delivered to the reps within the month of June to July 2017.

An investigative report by Punch shows that the cars started having issues weeks after the lawmakers took delivery of them in Nigeria.

An official of the National Assembly who spoke to Punch said: “There have been faulty electrical issues and mechanical challenges.

“Some members have complained that they have experienced breakdown as a result of the faults."

It was also gathered another member from one of the South-West states called Baballe-Ila last week and threatened to return the car for a replacement.

The Chairman of a key committee, who is from Kano state, said: “What the members are saying about the cars is true.

“There have been complaints concerning the cars for months and members are calm because the leadership, particularly the Speaker (Yakubu Dogara), pleaded for patience.”

Meanwhile, the chairman, Movement for Nigeria’s Total Transformation, Chief Areoye Oyebola, has condemned the refusal of the Nigerian Senate to review its high allowances.

Oyebola argued that despite the poverty in Nigerian, a senator or even a member of the House of Representatives earns more than the president of the United States of America and the UK prime minister.
