16-year-old student claims vice principal is the father of her newborn baby

NAIJ.com gathered that a 16-year-old secondary school student who recently welcomed a baby claims her school's vice principal is her child's father.

According to reports, Faith Galadima, a student of the Government secondary school in Tunga, Minna, Niger state, allegedly revealed that the Vice Principal (VP) Mohammed Mohammed, was the father of her newborn son.

The 16-year-old who spoke to the press in Minna recently, said the VP didn't offer any form of assistance to her and her family throughout the duration of her pregnancy, which her father, Haruna confirmed.

She however said that even though she is not happy that she is a teenage mother, she would love to further her education. She went further to beg for government and NGO support, to enable her achieve her dreams and also cater for her baby.

While speaking to the press Faith said:

I did not receive any assistance from the V.P despite the agreement between him and the child rights agency.

I am not happy that I am now a mother at this tender age, I will not allow the incident to shatter my dream of becoming a nurse. I still want to further my studies because I want to be a be a nurse in the future."

Prior to the birth of Faith's baby, the VP was arrested and brought before a magistrate court in Minna on April 4, 2017, for getting a female student pregnant. He was imprisoned for three months before he was granted bail of N1 million.

Reacting to the incident, the director general of the Niger state Child Rights Protection Agency, Maryam Kolo, said part of the agency's demands to the ministry of education in the state was that Fatima receives part of Mohammed's salary monthly, to take care of her needs.

Kolo said the agency would petition the court for a DNA test to be conducted on the baby, which will help the court proceedings and police investigations. She also assured that Faith will get justice as well as return to school.

Meanwhile, investigations allegedly revealed that Mohammed had secretly transferred to another school while his case remained pending in court.
