A 17-year-old Nigerian who was deported from Libya has narrated the heartbreaking story of how she survived her experience in the desert in a bid to get to Europe.
The young girl identified as Blessing Sunday was part of the 147 Nigerians deported from Libya on Monday, November 6.
83 of the deportees were received and lounged into a hotel for rehabilitation process by the Edo state government.
Sunday who was in tears as she narrated her story revealed that she was a junior secondary school drop-out in Nigeria and she decided to learn hair-dressing until a woman offered to help her travel.

According to her, on her way to Libya through Kano several people travelling with her died of starvation and thirst.
She explained that she only survived because she has saved some of her food and water.
Sunday revealed that her father had sold all his belongings to raise money to bail her out after she was abducted and kept in a cell when she got to Libya.
“When we got to Libya, I was kidnapped. They made me go call my father and he sold his property to set me free. I am the last child of the family and we don’t have anything at home now.
There was no food or water in the trip. You see people dying. We bought provision and water and I managed my own in order to survive. My father sold all his property to enable me get to the seaside. I didn’t enter boat on the sea.”

Another deportee identified as Micheal Ogbebor also revealed that he tried to take his own life. He said: “I spent eight years to save the N300,000 I used to travel. In Libya, people were always ‘kalabushing’ each other, that is tracking each other’s boat. I have not entered the boat when I was rescued and brought back. I wanted to jump from a storey building when I fell. They came and saw that I was finished so they left me. It was the UN that came and took me to the hospital.”
