Barcelona star striker trains in sand to end knee troubles (photos)

- Luis Suarez has been struggling with knee problem since the start of the season

- The Barca forward will miss Uruguay's upcoming friendlies against Poland and Austria

- He has began special sand training to help his troubled knee

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has begun his individual training regime as he bids to leave behind an ongoing knee problem.

The Uruguayan will remain in Barcelona during the international break, missing his country's upcoming friendlies against Poland and Austria in order to aid his recovery.

Suarez was ruled out for a month after injuring his knee in the Spanish Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid at the start of the season but has since started 10 of his side's last 12 games in all competitions.

However, the knee problem has continued to hamper the forward, who has struggled for form in the new campaign with just three goals to his name so far.

The Uruguayan Football Association revealed the player would not participate in the November fixtures as 'Barcelona's medical department has proposed he undertake treatment for a week from to continue the rehabilitation of his right knee.'

And the 30-year-old was pictured getting put through his paces in the sand on Tuesday morning as he bids to strengthen the knee.

Running on sand is a helpful workout for any runner because of how your muscles need to compensate, increasing the strength of your ankles, muscles and arches just below your knee.

Suarez, who had reportedly been set for surgery at one point, played the full 90 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 victory over Sevilla but failed to contribute a goal or an assist for the third game in a row.

Whilst Suarez is yet to hit top form his team have still made a fine start, sitting four points clear at the top of the Spanish top flight with 10 wins from 11 games.
