Businesses within National Assembly closed ahead of President Buhari's 2018 budget presentation

- President Muhammadu Buhari will today, Tuesday, November 7 present the 2018 budget

- Business operations within the National Assembly will not open

- The president will present the 2018 budget estimates to a joint session of the National Assembly at 2.00 pm

All is set set for President Muhammadu Buhari’s anticipated visit to the National Assembly on Tuesday, November 7, to present the 2018 budget to senators and members of the House of Representatives.

According to The Cable, banks and shops operating within the National Assembly Complex did not open for business because of the budget presentation.

As at 8:30 am people who were denied access to the national assembly remained at the entrance.

Aides, and journalists who were not accredited were also turned back at the main gate of the complex.

A tweet from Yakubu Dogara's handle, said President Buhari scheduled to present 2018 budget estimates before a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Nigerian Senate at 2 pm today at the National Assembly.

In a previous report by NAIJ.com, the president had in a letter on Thursday, November 2, formally informed the Senate and the House of Representatives of the presentation of the appropriation bill.

“In pursuant to Section 81 of the 1999 Constitution, may I crave the kind indulgence of the National Assembly to grant me the slot of 1400 hours on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, to formally address a joint session and lay before the NASS the 2018 budget proposal,” the president said.

The president had earlier sent the 2018-2020 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper to the National Assembly.

The submission of the documents usually precedes the presentation of the budget estimates to the National Assembly in pursuant to provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.
