The family of Alex Ekwueme, Nigeria’s former vice president, has given an update on the health condition of the elder statesman, Premium Times reports.
The update was given by the traditional ruler of Oko community in Anambra state, Laz Ekwueme, following the former VP’s collapse at his Enugu residence on Saturday, October 28.

NAIJ.com gathers that the family spokesman disclosed that the elder statesman is now in stable condition, but would remain under observation in the hospital, until there is an improvement in his situation.
He stated: “Dr Alex I. Ekwueme, GCON, the former vice president, Federal Republic of Nigeria, was on Sunday 29th October 2017, admitted into hospital for a chest infection.
“It will be recalled that the former Vice President had a quiet celebration of his 85th birthday on the 21st of October 2017 in the company of his family members, and he remained in high spirits up till his recent health challenges.
“His doctors confirm that he is stable, but he will remain under close medical attention in the meantime.
“The family would like to express its profound gratitude to all Nigerians who have shown concern over this development, and requests their sustained support and prayers as he continues to make a full recovery.”

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that that second republic vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, collapsed in his home on Saturday, October 28.
Ekwueme reportedly collapsed around 2am at his residence in Independence Layout, Enugu and was rushed to the Memfys Hospital for Neurosurgery.
The development occurred barely 10 days after he celebrated his 85th birthday on October 21.
