- He also announced a new chairman for the committee
The chief justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has expressed his regret over the rejection of a former president of the court of appeal, Ayo Salami, as the chairman of the Corruption and other Financial Crime Cases Trials Monitoring Committee.
The CJN speaking on the Salami decision to reject the offer of chairing the committee set up by the National Judicial Council said he is unhappy.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committee, the CJN said a retired justice of the Supreme Court, Suleiman Galadima, has accepted to replace Salami.

Onnoghen said Salami had earlier accepted the offer top head the 16-man committee.
“The committee was initially billed to be headed by His Lordship, Hon. Justice Ayo lsa Salami, OFR, former president of the Court of Appeal.
“Having earlier given his consent, we regret that His Lordship is unable to assume the leadership of the committee for personal reasons. We do hope however that His Lordship, Hon. Justice Ayo Salami, OFR, will in the near future, be available to offer the judiciary in particular and the nation in general the benefits of his wealth of experience.

“However, I am pleased to announce that Hon. Justice Suleiman Galadima, JSC (retd.), CFR, has graciously accepted to serve as the chairman of the committee," Onnoghen said.
NAIJ.com earlier the former president of the Court of Appeal had rejected the offer by the NJC to lead a committee on corrupt cases monitoring.

Members of the committee include the president of the Nigeria Bar Association, Abubakar Mahmoud, and some of his predecessors.
Other former NBA presidents named as members of the committee are Wole Olanipekun, Olisa Agbakoba, Joseph Daudu, Augustine Alegeh among many others.
