IPG Ibrahim Idris heads to court, institutes N5b libel suit against Senator Misau

- Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has sued Senator Hamman Misau for N5 billion

- This followed an alleged libel claimed by Idris against the senator

- The suit is different from the one filed on his behalf against the senator by the federal government

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has reportedly filed a N5 billion libel suit against Senator Hamman Misau representing Bauchi Central district at the National Assembly.

This, according to The Punch, is different from the criminal case filed by the federal government against Misau, through the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

The civil case filed by Idris is said to have been assigned to Justice Jude Okeke of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja while the criminal one filed by the office of the AGF is before the Chief Judge of the court, Justice Ishaq Bello.

Justice Okeke has reportedly fixed for November 13, 2017 for hearing in the case.

It was learnt that the IGP, through his counsel, Marcel Oru, is asking the court to award cumulative aggravated and exemplary damages of N5 billion against the senator.

The report said both cases by the Idris and the officer of the AGF followed the allegations levelled against the IGP by the senator.

Misau had alleged some unethical practices against Idris resulting in the Senate setting up an adhoc committee to investigate the claims.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Ibrahim Idris finally agreed to appear before the Nigerian Senate over allegations by a legislator, Isa Misau.

Idris is now to appear before a Senate ad-hoc committee probing the allegations by Misau representing Bauchi Central Senatorial district at the upper legislative chamber.
