Maina’s issue not swept under the carpet - Presidency

- The federal government has restated its commitment to fighting corruption without prejudice

- Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said President Buhari’s administration will leave no stone unturned in ensuring its success

- Adesina said the president is still on the case of Abdulrasheed Maina, the former pension boss

Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, on Wednesday, November 1, said President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to fighting corruption without prejudice.

Channels TV reports that Adesina noted that Nigerians would get a feedback from the president in the case involving Abdulrasheed Maina, the former pension boss.

"As far as the government is concerned, it (Maina’s case) is an unraveling matter.

"The last you heard officially from the government was that he was ordered to be disengaged from service and a report was asked for, that report came in and the President has it.

"So, until the president gets back to Nigerians, you can’t say the matter is closed or it is swept under the carpet," he said.

Maina, who was accused of mismanaging about N2 billion pension fund, was reinstated into the Federal Civil Service after he was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

His reinstatement had sparked criticism from Nigerians, a development which some claimed prompted President Buhari to order his immediate dismissal.

Reacting to anticipations that the government will order a probe into the incident, Adesina said President Buhari only demanded a report on the circumstances that led to Maina’s readmittance into the public service.

He said: "Nigerians love probe, you can’t call that a probe; he’s just asking for a report that led to the circumstance, it’s not a probe."

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the International Police has declared Maina wanted. The world police body, sent a letter, stating that Maina has been placed on its “Red Notice” based on the request by the EFCC.

Meanwhile, the presidency stated that President Buhari never made a promise to Nigerians in 2015 that he would not seek medical treatment abroad if elected.
