Nigerian Air Force inducts new bell helicopter seized from Rivers state government (photos)

- Major systems of the 2 helicopters handed to the Nigerian Air force are sent to the USA and Canada for overhaul and repairs

- NAF says the second Bell 412 helicopter is still undergoing reactivation at 631 ACMD and would be inducted into the NAF immediately after reactivation

One of the helicopters seized from the Rivers state government by the federal government has been inducted into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The helicopters were earlier in the year handed over to NAF by the federal government after been in containers for about 2 years.

The chief of the air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on 1 November 2017, inducted the brand new Bell 412 Helicopter into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

According to a statement from the force, the major systems of the two helicopters and the surveillance cameras had to be sent to the USA and Canada for overhaul and repairs to restore their airworthiness.

It said: “The helicopter’s major systems were later reassembled at the NAF’s 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot (ACMD) Ikeja thereby providing an opportunity for the attachment of NAF engineers and technicians towards further building their technical capacities.

“The second Bell 412 Helicopter is still undergoing reactivation at 631 ACMD and would be inducted into the NAF immediately after reactivation."

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army has denied allegation that it abandoned one Private Abdulrauf Aliyu who was attacked and wounded by Boko Haram while he was on duty.

There was an allegation raised by a member of the Citizens United for Peace and Stability (CUPS), Idris Ahmed, that the army abandoned Aliyu after he sustained abdomen injuries and stopped paying his salary.

The army, in its' reaction to the allegation said Aliyu was never abandoned but rather disappeared from the hospital he was taken to without being discharged.
