Protest rocks Abuja as contractors march over non-payment for jobs done since 2015

- Protest is currently ongoing in Abuja by contractors over non payment for jobs done since 2015

- The FG said the current administration inherited trillions of naira worth of unpaid contracts and contractors

- It said the FG will gradually pay all contractors

Reports reaching NAIJ.com is that contractors have taken to the streets of Abuja to protest non payment for job done since 2015.

But while responding to the protest, the federal government released a statement through their twitter handle intimating the public that the administration inherited trillions of naira worth of unpaid contracts and contractors.

"We inherited trillions of Naira worth of abandoned/unfinished projects and unpaid contracts/contractors.

"Slowly but steadily we're sorting through them, reviewing, auditing, clearing backlogs, getting contractors back onsite.

'This rail line is one example. Sept 2018 Target."

Going further, the federal government said that: "Our target for an improvement in the World Bank's Doing Business rankings was 20 places. We moved 24. There's still a lot of work ahead, and we will give it all it takes."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari was urged by some repented Niger Delta militant leaders to consider giving pipeline surveillance contracts to youths in the area.

The ex-miliant leaders, under the auspices of Leadership Peace and Cultural Development Initiative ( LPCDI), made the appeal during their meeting with the Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd.).
