2019: PDP senator gets endorsement from youth groups, traditional rulers

- The talks surrounding the 2019 general elections are becoming more pronounced by the day

- Political stakeholders are already aligning with their choices ahead of the election

- Senator Mao Ohabunwa is one politician who has already secured key endorsements

Ahead of the 2019 elections, the aspiration of the senator representing the people of Abia North, Senator Mao Ohabunwa recently received a boost when stakeholders all over the senatorial district endorsed him for a second term in the National Assembly.

The gale of endorsements was done in three respective fora and civic receptions held in honour of the senator by indigenes of the senatorial district.

At one of the events, Ohabunwa explained to his constituents his contributions as their representative in the upper chamber.

He highlighted the quality of his debates, his insistence and inclusion of the Ohafia Arochukwu road in the 2018 budget, the inclusion of modern day Primary Health Care centers in about four communities as well as his empowerment programmes for the unemployed youths within the district and sponsored employment for a host of others.

After his speech, the audience urged the senator to continue the good works he was doing for them in the Senate.

They encouraged him to seek and run for the Senate again under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Senator Ohabunwa described his tenure in the Senate as eventful and full of challenges.

He however noted that his experience was worth it since he was only a representative of the people.

He attributed his endorsements to the grace of God and the confidence of the people in his quality of representation.

Ohanbunwa, 60, a former member of the House of Representatives, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency, is an influential member of the PDP in Abia state.

In October this year,the Senate Press Corps conferred on him the award of 'Law-making Facilitator of the Year.'

Meanwhile, Governor Rochas Okorocha has announced that he won't aspire to be a senator in 2019.

The governor made the comment when about 5,000 members of the Rochas Mandate Movement held a solidarity rally for him in Owerri, on Friday December 15.

The governor's statement is coming at a time most of his colleagues gearing up to leave their respective government houses are preparing to contest for senatorial positions.
