President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, who just clocked 81.

Buhari prayed for the Pontiff after he reportedly discovered that he shares the same birthday with the spiritual father.

"The president discovered that he shares the same birthday with the Pope a while ago and is delighted about the coincidence," Buhari said.

"The president wishes the Pope long life in service to humanity," a statement by Garba Shehu, the spokesperson of Buhari, said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported how General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, the chief of defence staff congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his 75th birthday.

Olonisakin sent the congratulatory message to the president in a tweet on Sunday, December 17.

"On behalf of the Officers and Men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, I wish the President and C-in-C of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, a happy and prosperous 75th birthday. May God bless your leadership sir," he tweeted.
