Buhari’s aide slams parents for sending their children to die in Libya

The personal assistant to the president on social media Lauretta Onochie has said President Muhammadu Buhari administration has been evacuating Nigerians from Libya since January 2017 and will continue to do so.

Onochie made the statement on Friday, December 01, in reaction to the evacuation of another batch of 153 Nigerians migrants from Libya.

The presidential aide in a post on Facebook faulted many parents who raise millions of naira to enrich human traffickers to traffic their children to their deaths.

She said the loan from the anchor borrowers programme of the federal government and the CBN is not up to a million naira but that young people were turning their lives for the better with the programme

Onochie said there were many other government social intervention schemes that young Nigerians could take advantage of, adding that while these schemes will not turn anyone into an instant millionaire but they could give a gradual start to a steady climb in the ladder of good life.

She said it was is heart breaking that families are still selling landed properties and heirlooms to send their children on a dangerous voyage that might claim their lives.

Onochie stated that though Nigeria is not yet a paradise, but we all are managing to cope and survive the hardship foisted on us by the irresponsible management of our resources.

Meanwhile, speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy Nigeria’s diplomatic and military influence to stop the trafficking of black Africans and modern-day slavery, particularly in Libya.

Dogara, who addressed his colleagues during plenary in Abuja on Thursday, November 30, called on Buhari to lead the fight against the trafficking of black Africans in Libya, the Punch reports.
