General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, the chief of defence staff, has congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on his 75th birthday.

Olonisakin sent the congratulatory message to the president in a tweet on Sunday, December 17.

"On behalf of the Officers and Men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, I wish the President and C-in-C of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, a happy and prosperous 75th birthday. May God bless your leadership Sir," he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Madu Uche from the Leadership Institute in Badagary, Lagos in the spirit of the Democracy Day celebration said the chief of defence staff Gabriel Olonisakin is a professional soldier who has earned the honour of Nigerians.

Madu said: "My brain has got cracking again! All things being equal, I should be a happy Nigerian because my country, Nigeria is in a joyous mood, celebrating about 18 years of unobstructed democracy. It is the longest period ever in our beleaguered political history, as a nation, since independence in 1960 that civilians would hold democratic power uninterrupted for this long.

"Many things are wrong with my country. I mean, so many issues in our public life aren’t just the normal; but the absurd.

"Like other patriotic Nigerians, I feared for my country; I constantly besieged God Almighty in prayers to free us from this internal abuse anchored by our own masters and show us the way to prosperity as a nation and a people."

Earlier, NAIJ.com reported that President Muhammadu Buhari described the death of former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Mallam Gidado Idris, as a big loss to the nation.

President Buhari, who expressed sadness at the passing of the admirable octogenarian, said: “Being a highly experienced and quintessential technocrat who traversed the different stages of the political evolution of the country, his wise counsel will surely be missed.”

The president , in a statement by the special adviser on media and publicity Femi Adesina also said the late Mallam Idris, in addition to rising to the pinnacle of his public career as SGF, also served several civilian and military administrations meritoriously as federal permanent secretary.
