Bukola Saraki, the president of the Nigerian Senate, on Monday, December 25 felicitated with Nigerians, particularly Christians as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Saraki felicitated with Christians in a statement by his special adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu.
He called on Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the service of humanity in line with the true teachings of Jesus Christ which emphasises tolerance, patience, brotherly kindness, care for the needy and love for one another, among other virtues.

"The yuletide season presents us an opportunity once more to love, share and forgive. I urge all Nigerians to utilize the period to pray for unity, peace and prosperity in the nation.
"We must also rededicate ourselves to the true virtues of faith in God, love for one another, honesty and peaceful coexistence. It is time to make these virtues more evident and practical in our daily lives," Saraki stated.
Saraki also stated that the 8th Senate and indeed the National Assembly will continue to strive to make life more meaningful for all Nigerians.
He added that the legislature would at all times work to ensure that Nigeria takes her rightful position in the league of nations through relevant legislations and timely interventions.
"I wish all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance," he said.
On his part, speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, called on Nigerians to emulate the great virtues of humility, love, peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation, which, according to him, were the real reasons for the coming of Jesus Christ.
Ekweremadu, who made the call in his Christmas message to Nigerians said Christmas was an opportunity to reflect on the humility of Christ and limitless love of God, who gave his only begotten son to be born as man in order to save and reconcile mankind unto Himself.
He said: “Christmas is a lesson in unusual humility of the divine born as man, and of a king born in a manger. It is a reawakening to that unconditional love and self-sacrifice, which we must all embrace in order to move Nigeria and humanity forward.
“I believe that like Nazareth, many good things will still come out of Nigeria because this is a land of boundless opportunities and great possibilities. But we must first build a nation where no man is oppressed, where justice reigns, where each man is his brother’s keeper, and where every citizen has the latitude to become the best he could irrespective of ethnic, religious, and political background and social status.”
While wishing Christian faithful and indeed all Nigerians a merry Christmas, Ekweremadu also prayed God to guide the nation’s leaders on the path of Christly virtues of humility, fairness, justice, and kindness for the peace and speedy development of the country.
The Lagos state Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, also felicitated with Christians at the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Ambode made this known in a statement by his chief press secretary, Habib Aruna.
He urged Nigerians to use the period of Christmas to rekindle acts of love, kindness to one another.
“This season is another opportunity to increase our acts of kindness and touch the less privileged in our society,” he said.

Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, also felicitated with Christians, urging Nigerians to pray and support their leaders as they strive to find lasting solution to the myriad of challenges confronting the nation.
“This period calls for introspection and continued prayers for our dear nation.
“On behalf of the people and Government of Sokoto State, I wish all Nigerians, especially those of Christian faith, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ahead,” he said.
Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta state Governor, in his congratulatory message Christmas is a season to celebrate peaceful co-existence and show love to one another.
“I call on all Christians; indeed, all Deltans and all residents in Delta State, to reflect on the virtues and teachings of Jesus Christ in their lives and activities so that Nigeria and indeed the world would be a better place for all of us.
“I wish all Deltans and indeed all Nigerians, a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year in advance as I pray for the warmth of God’s love to fill every heart and home,” he said.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the Senate president announced this on Sunday, December 24, while meeting with various stakeholders from across Kwara Central and the state as part of his end-of-year constituency interaction activities.
