Insider source gives assessment of President Buhari’s son’s critical situation as he is flown to Germany

A source that is familiar with Yusuf Buhari’s medical treatment has claimed that his level of consciousness was five in the scale of 15 when he was brought in.

This is as The Cable report that he has been flown to Germany.

NAIJ.com had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari’s son was involved in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, December 26.

Garba Shehu in a statement on Wednesday, December 27 said the president’s son was in stable condition but Daily Nigerian in a report on Thursday, December 28 claimed Yusuf was put on mechanical support at Cedarcrest Hospital to prevent him from dying.

The source claimed Yusuf’s level of consciousness was five in the scale of 15.

The source said that “if the best scale is 3 to 4 after twenty four hours, 87% of those individuals will either die or remain in a vegetative state and only 7% will have a moderate disability or good recovery.

“In patients with a scale from 5 to 7, 53% will die or remain in a vegetative state, while 34% will have a moderate disability or good recovery.

“In patients with a scale of 8 to 10, 27% will die or remain in a coma, while 68% will have a moderate disability and/or good recovery. In patients who have a scale from 11 to 15, only 7% will be expected to die or remain in a coma, while 87% would expect to have at least a moderate disability and/or good recovery.”

Another source said since there was no air ambulance in the country, the presidential jet will be kitted to provide support and take Yusuf to either Germany or the UK for further treatment.

The Cable however reports that he was flown to Germany with oxygen support.

According to the report, he was flown under the care of a Nigerian doctor and three paramedics.

An orthopaedic consultant with specialisation in head injuries was also on the flight to monitor the his progress.

NAIJ.com had reported that former vice president, Atiku Abubakar reacted to news of Yusuf Buhari’s accident saying his family will be praying for him.

Reliable sources said Yusuf was out riding with a friend when the incident happened.

A source said: “Yusuf was trying to overtake his friend when he suddenly veered off the road and skidded. He lay there unconscious for a while before the first lady was alerted.

“She ordered that he be immediately rushed to Cedarcrest Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. We are more concerned about the head injury than the fractures. As I speak to you, Yusuf is unconscious. "
