The victim's father who stated this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, said the federal government and Borno state government have failed to reach out to him regarding their efforts in ensuring his son's release.

Dr. Yusuf and his colleagues were abducted on July 25 while obtaining soil samples for hydrocarbon exploration around the Chad Basin. The exploration was being coordinated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

When asked if he had received any news from the government in respect of his son’s release from Boko Haram captivity, he said: “I have not received any news from the government. There has not been any effort from the federal government to get in touch with us. Since his kidnap, we have no news about their whereabouts.

“I live in Abuja, but when the incident happened, I had to travel to Maiduguri. I spent two weeks in Maiduguri after which I had to go to my elder son’s house in Damaturu. I waited there for three months.”

He revealed that his son’s wife went into labour almost immediately after the news of the kidnap broke out.
