Arms scandal: Metuh’s trial postponed by High Court, following undisclosed illness

- The ongoing arms deal trial of Olisa Metuh has been adjourned to Tuesday, January 22, by an Abuja High Court

- The case was postponed after the trial judge was informed that the former PDP national publicity secretary was on admission for an undisclosed ailment

- The trial judge had previously postponed the case in December 2017, following alleged threats to lives, due to a subpoena issued to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the ongoing arms deal trial of Olisa Metuh, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Channels reports.

Metuh’s counsel, Emeka Etiaba, had reportedly informed the court on Monday, January 22, that his client was on admission at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital, receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

NAIJ.com gathers that in order to enable cross-examination of Metuh’s 9th witness, the trial judge, Okon Abang, subsequently adjourned the case to Tuesday, January 23.

Metuh’s counsel had previously informed the court in December 2017, that his clients’ life and that of lead counsel in the case Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu, were being threatened following the court’s issuing of a subpoena to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, asking him to testify in the case.

In order to allow the defendant call any other person as witness other than the former president, the judge had then moved the trial to December 5 and 6.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a witness in the criminal trial of the ex-national publicity secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, told the court how money was shared between the national women leader of the PDP, Chief Mrs Kema Chikwe and others.

Junaid Sai'd, an investigative officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), told the court that N21,776,000 was transferred to the PDP board of trustee chairman, Tony Anenih; N5 million to Mrs Chikwe, and N50 million to the joint account of Metuh and his wife.
