Thousands of Benue residents are trooping into the IBB Square in Makurdi to attend the memorial service for the victims of the recent herdsmen attacks.
Many of those attending the event are wearing black attires in solidarity with the families of the victims.
NAIJ.COM correspondent on ground in Makurdi saw a long line of queue at the entrance of the square as thousands make their way into the expansive venue. The square is filled to the brim as many can't even find space to seat.
Hundreds of clergymen are also on ground to conduct the memorial service.
Security is also water-tight at the venue as everyone is subjected to intense searching.
The state government had earlier declared today, Thursday, January 11, as a public holiday to enable residents attend the event.
