- The Senator representing Kastina South Senatorial District has said that Benue killers could be dislodged Boko Haram members

- Abu Ibrahim also said that these killers could also be some Libyan soldiers who have been displced.

He said the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration is committed to ending the suspected herdsmen menace across Nigeria

A lawmaker in the Eight Assembly has debunked claims that suspected herdsmen accused of killing Benue residents are Fulanis.

The lawmaker, Abu Ibrahim, (All Progressives Congress, Katsina South) said the attackers could be dislodged members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect or some displaced soldiers from Libya.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, January 11, Ibrahim, who is also the chairman of the Senate committee on police affairs said Fulani herdsmen are not known to possess sophisticated weapons.

“We have to seriously investigate this. A normal Fulani man is not known to carry AK47. The security agencies should probe whether the defeated Boko Haram insurgents were involved; whether the Gaddafi phenomenon has spilled over to Nigeria.

“It should be considered whether displaced Libyan soldiers had a hand in what happened because it is not easy to acquire AK47,” Ibrahim said.

the Senator also commended the inspector general of police and officers of the Force for their swift response to activities of the killers in Benue state.

Ibrahim also noted that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration is committed to ensuring that the inhumane killings by the suspected herdsmen is brought to an end.

“It is not true because the president has taken steps to bring the situation under control. He has deployed soldiers to Benue state, he ordered the inspector general of police to relocate to Benue. He has taken other measures that may not be for public consumption.

“It is therefore wrong for anybody to say that the president is not interested in what happened in the state. When the president saw that the police effort was not bringing effective result, he promptly deployed soldiers,” Ibrahim said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the presidency debunked claims that herdsmen attack farmers freely in various parts of Nigeria because the president is a Fulani man.

Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration is ready to crack down on the herdsmen menace.

Adesina also said that over 756 Nigerians were also killed by herdsmen between 2013 and 2015 when former president Goodluck Jonathan was in power.
