Football legend hospitalised and kept under close observation after collapsing in his hometown

- Football Icon Pele collapsed in Brazil and has been rushed to the hospital

- The doctors said the reason for his collapse was because of exhaustion

- Pele was due in London this weekend for the Football Writer's association tribute

Brazilian football legend Pele was rushed to the hospital in his hometown after collapsing and he will remain there for more tests.

Pele was supposed to travel to the United Kingdom this weekend for the football writer's association tribute in London where was supposed to be honoured.

Doctors said the collapse was due to severe exhaustion and he has been receiving drips while being monitored to see if his condition would improve.

An FWA statement read: "In the early hours of Thursday morning, Pele collapsed and was taken to hospital in Brazil where he has undergone a series of tests which appear to point to severe exhaustion.

"He remains on fluids while doctors monitor his recovery, thankfully, there is no suggestion of anything more serious than exhaustion and everybody at the Football Writers' Association wishes Pele a swift and full recovery."

His previous appearance before his showing in Rio had been at the draw for the 2018 World Cup in Russia last month, where he arrived in a wheelchair.

Pele is widely regarded by many as one of the finest footballers of his generation and of all-time.

He was part of three of Brazil's World Cup winning sides and scored over 1000 goals in his career.
