Fuel scarcity: Angry S/West governor hits the streets, cracks down on filling stations selling above N145

- Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo has led a task force to ensure that filling stations in the state sell fuel at N145

- Some errant stations had been selling above N145 and had changed tactics and began selling only at night/early morning to ensure that they continued with their unwholesome practice

- The governor however paid an unscheduled visit to some filling stations and forced them to sell at the approved price, as he stated that it is no longer business as usual

The governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, led a task force to crack down on filling stations selling fuel above the approved N145 per litre pump price or hoarding the product, Premium Times reports.

The governor had previously set up the task force to monitor the fuel situation in the state.

NAIJ.com gathers that some filling stations had been hoarding the product and eventually selling at between N180 and N200 per litre.

However, most marketers started selling in the night/early morning; as they stopped selling fuel during the day, following the crackdown.

The move caused the governor to force some stations to sell at the approved price, following unexpected visits on Sunday, January 21.

At one particular station, after receiving reports that fuel was being sold above N145, the governor forced the pump attendants to sell at the approved price.

Motorists expressed delight at the governor’s actions and urged his team to visit other filling stations engaged in the illegal practice.

According to Governor Akeredolu, it was no longer business as usual.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that fuel scarcity continued in various filling stations as motorists and users of Premium Motor Spirit queued up in Lagos and Ogun states.

Many fuel stations were shut down on Sunday, January 21, while others sold petrol above the official pump price of N145 per litre.

It was gathered that some of the stations in the state sold products between N160 and N180 per litre, with a charge fee of N200 or more for those who bought in jerrycans.
