- A Chinese man bought a car using coins

- The BMW was worth $11,000

- The dealership had to close for the afternoon so employees could count the coins

Even if they are of low value, coins are still legal tender. A Chinese man took full advantage of this fact recently.

According to upi.com, the unnamed man paid for a brand new BMW worth $11,000 entirely with coins.

A car dealership in Putian City, Fujian Province, had to close on the afternoon of 17 December so its employees could count the huge number of coins.

The man came in with the coins packed in 10 large boxes. Employees had to use almost the entire floor of the dealership to ascertain the amount.

The dealership's owner said the man had apparently saved the coins over a period of time before finally deciding to buy a car.

His saving effort paid off handsomely as he drove off with his new acquisition. This isn't the first time a Chinese person has bought a car using coins.

In 2015, another man paid for his car worth $14,000 with coins totaling a whopping 666,000.
