Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly begged the club's chiefs to sign Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann in the January 2018 transfer window.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is said to have made the plea to United's hierarchy following the injuries sustained by two of his strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku.

Initially, Manchester United want to wait till the end of the ongoing season before they can go for the signing of Griezmann, but Mourinho has told the club to meet the £86 million release clause Atletico Madrid want for the Frenchman according to Express UK.

Spanish club Barcelona also want Griezmann but Atletico do not want to sell to their La Liga rivals who are expected to make a renewed bid for Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

Griezmann has been a long term target for Manchester United, and the Frenchman could be on his way to Old Trafford before the close of the January transfer window.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Premier League giants Manchester United have been hit with another injury problem as the Red Devils will now be without striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for 1 month.

The Swedish professional football star sustained the injury against Burnley and was left out of his side's 0-0 Premier League clash against Southampton on December 26, 2017.

Ibrahimovic now joins fellow striker Romelu Lukaku on the sidelines after the Belgian was taken off on a stretcher following a clash of heads with Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt.
