A 61-year-old civil servant, Alphonsus Ameh, who received his sack letter on Friday, December 29, 2017, from the Kogi state government, has reportedly died of high blood pressure at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja, the state capital.

Ameh, a director with the Kogi State Pensions Board, was among the directors and permanent secretaries who were suspended in February 2016 by the state government.

One of the deceased nieces told the Guardian that the director who was a grade level 16 officer of the board, had not been paid any salary since his suspension two years ago.

She said he died three days after receiving a sack letter from the Kogi state government.

He was director of administration and Finance (DAF) in the Kogi State Pensions Board before he and others were suspended by the state government at the outset of Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration in 2016.

The deceased, who hailed from Ade community in Olamaboro local council of the state, resided in Lokoja.

In another tragic event, Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, the Kabba resident High Court judge in Kogi handling the case of attempted assassination of Senator Dino Melaye, is dead.

The judge died in Anyigba on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at about 11:40pm during a cross-over service to 2018.

NAIJ.com gathers that according to a reliable source close to the family, Akogu, who had vowed not to sleep before the cross-over to 2018, was not sick, nor did he show any symptoms of ill health.

His wife, Mrs Vicky Akogu, who confirmed the death, said the late judge and one-time Director of Public Prosecution in the state, was hale and hearty before his sudden death.

She said that she watched her husband’s death like a movie and could hardly believe it.
