A commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom state have said that those calling for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the Nigeria Police Force are misinformed.

Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, who was recently deployed to Akwa Ibom state as the commissioner of the state's command said SARS remains relevant to the overall success of the force in combating crimes across Nigeria.

Describing those agitating for the #ENDSARS campaign as misinformed individuals, Ogunjemilusi said, the reorganisation of the unit and other tactical units of the command for better service delivery remained a priority for his command.

He said this is in line with the guidelines being implemented by the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris.

He also said that the unit is the only arm of the police that combats violent crime,and has remained the only unit with highest level of risk of attack against its men.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that famous police officer and musician, Abayomi Ekundayo aka Yomi SARS, had said he intends to work harder than usual this new year.

Yomi SARS who came to prominence following the campaign against officers of SARS was recently promoted to an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
