Chelsea dealt major blow as star player's return to action delayed

- Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has revealed that Alvaro Morata will still be out due to back injury

- Morata last featured for the Blues last month and his return to action is not certain for Chelsea

- Chelsea are struggling in front of goal and defeat to West Brom might push for Conte closer to his exit

Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has revealed striker Alvaro Morata will not return anytime soon due to his back pain.

Morata joined Chelsea in a club-record £60 million move from Real Madrid and he is struggling to recover from a nagging back injury.

Conte has been dealt a huge blow and he is currently under pressure to get the desired results but his star 25-year-old striker remains sidelined.

Conte said: "For sure, we are facing a serious situation.

"Players like Morata that are important for us are missing for a long time.

"I don't know, he has this problem. We are trying to find a solution to solve the pain in his back."

Morata has not featured for the Blues since last month and has missed the two consecutive losses to Bournemouth and Watford in matches respectively.

Another poor result will force the Chelsea board to act as Conte has come under increasing scrutiny with many wondering if the loss of Morata will be a big blow with the Blues struggling in front of goal recently.

Olivier Giroud, a £20million signing in January from Arsenal, is likely to start up top against West Brom on Monday night at Stamford Bridge.
