FIFA have declared the use of selfie sticks at match centers during the 2018 World Cup tournament staging in Russia as illegal.
The global football governing body say her decision was backed by their aim of curbing the threat of crowd trouble at matches centers during the one-long month events.
Though the stick is meant to help tourists and fans at the competition take pictures from afar, the organisers of the tournament believe the equipment could be used as a dangerous weapon against others.

Reasons they have included it in the list of banned items along with camera tripods as the ahead of the championship this summer.
Also, FIFA are not leaving security of lives and properties to chance as they have concluded plans to thoroughly search bags to ensure the risks of terrorist attack are curtailed at the various match centers in Russia.
And in view of this, the world football governing body has resolved to remove any banned item from spectators going into the stadium, adding that everyone will go through similar screening as that of the airports’.

In 2014, vuvuzela was stopped from being used at the 2014 edition of the championship in Brazil, and four years after, selfie sticks have been added into the list.
At the first instance, the trumpet-like instrument was lauded by Fifa going into the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, but its purpose was defeated as it ended up irritating television broadcasts with its uncontrolled noise.
Wimbledon flagged off selfie sticks at their courts since 2015, while Disney were also forced to adopt a similar stance the same year at their resorts across the globe.
