The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its planned strike following intervention by the federal government.
The federal government through the director general of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura, had met with the leadership of NUPENG over the strike which was expected to commence on Thursday, February 15.

In a statement signed by its president, Igwe Achese and its general secretary, Joseph Ogbebor, NUPENG said the suspension of the planned strike arose after a meeting and understanding was reached with the SSS DG.
NUPENG also said the SSS has resolved to convene a stakeholders meeting between the union and the International Oil Companies (IOCS) over the unresolved labour issues.

“Based on the agreement reached at the meeting with the DSS, NUPENG resolved after an emergency meeting of the National Administrative Council (NAC) in Abuja to suspend the 15-day ultimatum issued the Federal government in order to pave way for social dialogue to settle the nagging problems," the statement said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that petroleum tanker drivers had debunked reports that they would be embarking on a strike action.
The drivers said the reports that they will commence strike action by Monday, February 5, is false.
They urged Nigerians to regard the reports as rumours and unfounded.
