With the persisting fuel scarcity in Nigeria, the House of Representatives have began probe of major fuel depots across the nation.
The House's ad-hoc committee investigating the activities of staff of the Nigerian Pertroleum Marketing Companies (NPMC), and staff of government owned depots on Wednesday, February 14, announced that its has began its work.

The committee was set up following a motion on the floor of the House over accusations by some independent marketers that government depot representatives were incapable of lifting and supplying petroleum products across the country on their own.
However, during a visit to the AITEO Depot, the officials denied the allegation saying they have only acted based on instructions from the headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The staff also said contrary to reports and claims by the markers they are serving as an intervention to ease the persisiting fuel scarcity in Nigeria.

Speaking on the matter, the chairman of the committee, Danlami Kurfi, who is the lawmaker representing Dutsin-ma/Kurfi of Kastina state requested for documents of sales made to independent petroleum marketers.
Kurfi also called for the documents for major petroleum marketers across the country.
The lawmakers said the the committee would use the document to see if checks and balances made by the staff are as accurate as claimed.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that a planned strike by NUPENG, expected to commence on Thursday, February 15, has been suspended.

The union's president said strike the scheduled was called off due to federal government's intervention.
Its resolve to suspend the strike was reached at a meeting with the DSS who intervened on the matter on behalf of the FG.
