Kogi commences cattle ranches on 15,000 hectares of land

- Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello says the state has commenced cattle ranches on 15, 000 hectares of land

- Bello said the the ranches have began in two local government areas of the state

- The governor added that many other local government areas will soon be part of it

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, on Friday, February 9, in Abuja said that the state has commenced cattle ranches on 15,000 hectares of land in two local government areas, Vanguard reports.

NAIJ.com gathered that the Kogi state governor disclosed this during his official visit to the minister of agriculture and rural development, Audu Ogbeh, where he delivered a letter to that effect.

Bello said the two local government areas are Ajaokuta 10, 000 hectares, while Adavi gave 5, 000 hectares of land.

According to him the government has done effective sensitization of the people in the state, therefore they have keyed into the programme, and many other local government areas will soon be part of it give their lands for cattle ranches.

The governor also stated that the ranches were a pilot project, adding that the Fulani herdsmen will be brought into the two ranches over a period of time since there was no Anti-Grazing law enacted by Kogi state.

NAIJ.com previously reported that the sum of N250 million has been budgeted by the Plateau state government, for the establishment and management of ranches in yet-to-be identified areas of the state, Daily Trust reports.

Since assuming office, the state governor, Simon Lalong, has stated that ranching is the best option to tackle the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

The governor also sees the move as a means to increase Plateau’s economic prospects and empower the state’s youths.
