My 4-month old grandson was teargassed - Chairman Innoson motors recounts his ordeal with EFCC

- The chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) has recounted his ordeal with the EFCC

- Innocent Chukwuma said he was maltreated by officials of the anti-graft agency

- He also said his four-month old grandson and members of his staff were teargassed by the operatives

The chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, Innocent Chukwuma, has opened up on his ordeal with officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Chukwuma said his family members were maltreated by officials of the commission who came to his house for his arrest.

Speaking to members of the Senate committee on anti-corruption on Wednesday, February 7, Chukwuma said his wife was slapped by the EFCC operatives.

He also narrated how his four-month old grandson and members of his staff were teargassed by the operatives who forcefully gained entrance into his house.

Chukwuma said the operatives: "Swooped on my house like assassins. I do not know any thug nor do I have any thug let alone inviting or mobilising them to resist my arrest. Rather, given the way EFCC men entered into my residence, I thought they were assassins.”

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the chairman of the automobile manufacturing company had in a new suit demanded damages for assault, battery, false imprisonment and injury to feelings among others from EFCC.

The suit was filed at the Enugu High Court by Chukwuma's lawyer Joseph N. Mbadugha.

Chukwuma's spokesman Osigwe said the lawsuit against EFCC was because the agency did not recently invite him but arrested and detained him unlawfully.

Osigwe said Chukwuma had never jumped bail and was last invited by EFCC in 2012.
