Vanguard reports that Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said he should be examined by a psychiatrist, if he joins the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, spear-headed by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo recommended the coalition in a letter he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari last month.

The elder statesman had asked Nigerians to rally round the movement, saying neither the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, nor the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, could give Nigeria the leadership it deserved.

But speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba yesterday, Soyinka said the coalition was not meant for someone like him.

The Punch reports that the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammed Sanusi 11 and the National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa, have declared support for the Ekiti State’s anti-grazing law.

The two declared their support at a peace meeting held on Monday at the Government House, Ado Ekiti.

The meeting was attended by the heads of security and law enforcement agencies, hunters, members of MACBAN, farmers, vigilantes and grazing enforcement marshals.

Sanusi hailed Governor Ayodele Fayose for the enactment of the Ekiti grazing law, saying it was for the protection of herders, farmers and the host communities.

The Nation reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led states in the South South yesterday reiterated their resolve to work in unity to ensure the party forms the Federal Government in 2019.

Leaders of the party in the zone and their governors took this stand at a zonal Executive Council meeting at the Brick House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.

They alleged that the APC government had failed to provide good governance and destabilise the nation’s security infrastructure.

ThisDay reports that signs that the discord in President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption has deepened emerged on Monday as news broke of a query by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, to the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, asking him to explain his decision to file corruption charges against the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Mr. Danladi Umar.

Also queried was a private legal practitioner, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), who filed the charges on behalf of the EFCC. He is to explain to the AGF by whose authority he filed the case.

In the query dated February 16, 2018, with Reference No DPP/ADV: 368/15, Magu was directed to make his response to the query available to the AGF on or before Tuesday, February 20, 2018.

In the query, signed by Mr. Dayo Apata, the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Magu is to explain what informed the filing of corruption charges against the tribunal chairman having been cleared of corruption allegations twice by the EFCC.
