- Doctors at the National Hospital has spoken on the health of the former spokesperson of the PDP
- The doctors said the hospital can only render palliative care for Metuh
- They said he needs a delicate surgery for a spinal cord ailment which he is suffering
Doctors at the National Hospital has said that nothing can be done by the facility to help remedy the ailment suffered by the former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh.
The doctors said the hospital can only prescribe full nursing care and constant physiotherapy for Metuh pending when a spinal cord surgery would be performed on him.
Sources in the hospital said Metuh's family has been advised to embrace nursing care and shield the former PDP spokesperson from unregulated visits and influences.
One of the doctors who spoke under anonymity said the surgery for which Metuh must undergo is delicate and he must be protected and adequately guarded before and after the surgery.
The doctor said: "The patient has a serious spinal chord issue for which he needs to undergo a very delicate surgery. By his records, he was since 2016 referred to a hospital in London for the surgery, but he has not been able to do so.
"So for now, the doctors have prescribed full nursing care and constant physiotherapy for the patient, but the only solution is surgery," the source said.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that Metuh was brought to the Federal High Court in Abuja in an ambulance and stretcher from the National Hospital.

Metuh who is facing charges for receiving N400 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser was earlier transferred from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital in Awka.
His appearance at the court before Justice Okon Abang has raised outrage in the media, political space and the National Assembly.
While the PDP had accused the Presidency of interring in Metuh's case following a remark made by a presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, a House of Representative member, Chris Azubogu (Anambra-PDP), has called on the Attorney General of Federation to intervene on his case.
