Two missing policemen found unhurt in Benue after ambush by suspected herdsmen

- The Benue state police command expresses the hopes that two policemen declared missing will rejoin their team

The Benue state police command has disclosed that two of the four policemen it had declared missing have been found unhurt after 24 hours.

The commissioner of police in the state, Fatai Owoseni, told Channels TV on Sunday, February 11 over the phone that the duo have also rejoined the mobile police force team deployed in Ayilamo, Logo local government area of the state.

“Yes, I can confirm that two out of the four policemen declared missing after Saturdays’ attack on our patrol team in Ayilamo by suspected herdsmen, have rejoined their colleague unhurt,” he said.

“We are hoping that the other two policemen will rejoin the team safely,” he added.

Fatai Owoseni had declared four policemen missing on Saturday, February 10, after an ambush by suspected herdsmen on a police mobile force patrol team in Logo LGA.

He insisted that command would not be deterred or relent in its effort to ensure adequate security in areas under threat in Benue state.

Meanwhile, the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris, has deployed 15 additional police units, special forces, technical and intelligence teams to contain further attacks in Benue state.

Fatai Owoseni, the commissioner of police in the state, disclosed this on Monday, February 5, in Makurdi while addressing newsmen.

NAN reports that he said the command had rescued a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) who got missing during the February attack in Yogbo community in Guma local government area in the battle between police and suspected herdsmen.
