Two sons of a police superintendent get N50,000 bail each after allegedly beating up two SPs

- The sons of a police superintendent were arraigned for beating up another police superintendent on Saturday, February 10

- The youths, aged 16 and 19, were said to standing trial in a magistrate court in Igbosere, Lagos Island

- The case, presided over by Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya, has been adjourned to Wednesday, March 14

Two sons of a police superintendent, aged 16 and 19, on Monday, February 12, were arraigned in a magistrate’s court Igbosere, Lagos for allegedly beating up two superintendents of police with belt.

The two brothers are standing trial with another woman, 33-years old, Risikat Arowolo, who resides in McCarthy Police Barracks, Lagos Island, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault before Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya, Vanguard reports.

Sergeant Peace Chukwudi, the prosecutor, informed the court that the alleged crime happened on Saturday, February 10, at the barracks. She said that the suspects conspired amongst themselves and assaulted two policemen, who live in the same place with them.

Chukwudi said that the defendants allegedly assaulted the policemen by beating them with belt and also pushed them into the gutter. The victims are Chief Superintendent Onojaife Kent and Superintendent Nwaimo Christopher.

The prosecutor said the offence committed is punishable under Sections 411 and 172 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge levied against them.

Magistrate Adekomaiya granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000, each with one surety in like sum. He said that the surety must show his bank statement and tax payment to Lagos state government to the court. The case was adjourned till Wednesday, March 14.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the Nigerian police said it has launched a probe into the Saturday, November 11, clash between security detail of Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike and those of the minister of transportation, Chibuike Amaechi in Port Harcourt.

The Rivers police command spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, has also confirmed that a probe had been launched into the incident and the involvement of policemen.
