2018 UTME: JAMB registrar notifies candidates that results would not be released on time, gives reasons why

- Oloyede stated that JAMB would delay the release of results in order to review the activities of the candidates and also to reduce the number of cancellations

- The registrar also urged candidates to be on guard against fraudsters during the registration period, and warned against multiple registrations

Unlike 2017, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that the results of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) would not be released immediately, Premium Times reports.

The disclosure was made by the registrar of the board, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, on Wednesday, March 7, during a press conference titled “Conduct of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination”, which took place in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

NAIJ.com gathers that the registrar stated that the board would delay the release of results in order to review the activities of the candidates and minimise the number of cancellations.

He stated: “We want to monitor everything that happens through our CCT cameras. Last year, we proved a point that there is nothing extraordinary in the immediate release of results; but we had to cancel some results when we found out what happened in some centres.

“So, if we have to take two or three days to look at the conduct of the candidates before releasing the result so as to minimise cancellation, then we will do so.”

Oloyede further stated that no computer-based centre is permitted to collect any cash from the candidates; as he stressed that the board would release to the centres, the agreed sum of N600 per candidate due to them.

He further warned against multiple registrations and urged candidates to be on guard against fraudsters during the registration period.

In his words: “It is fraudulent to engage in multiple registrations, although the new system of capturing live pictures through cameras instead of scanning of pictures, biometrics capturing of fingers and the order of arrangement of names has curtailed incidences of multiple registration.

“The board is worried about the incessant cases of candidates being defrauded by syndicates, during the registration period. We arrested some of these syndicates. We call on all of you to be on the watch and call on us where such information is made available to you."

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is scheduled to begin on Friday, March 9, to Saturday, March 17.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that ahead of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which will begin on Friday, March 9, the full list of the examination centres across the country has been released.

About 1.6 million candidates are expected to write the examination in 602 centres across the country.

The spokesperson of the board, Fabian Benjamin, said the notification slip also carries the time and date allocated to each candidate. He said the candidates should ensure they print before Friday; noting that the board will not reschedule exams.
