Aubameyang blasts Arsenal teammates after Manchester City disappointing defeat

-Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says Arsenal teammates performed below average against City on Thursday evening

- He failed to score a penalty kick that could have given the Gunners momentum to fight for a draw

- The Gabon international believes the north Londoners stands a chance to play Champions League if they win Europa League title

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has blamed his teammates’ luck-lustered attitudes for their 3-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.

The Gunners suffered their second straight defeat to the current Premier League leaders in five days following their Carabao Cup final loss at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday to gift the Citizens their first title this season.

Goals from Leroy Sane, Bernando Silva, and David Silva were all that Pep Guardiola’s men needed to maintain 16 points lead on the log after 28 round of EPL matches this season.

And the north Londoners record signing, who missed a crucial penalty to have given his side a lifeline in the game says it was disheartening to lose the two encounters to City in the same week.

The Gabon star told French TV station SFR: "There is a lot of disappointment. We are not happy with our displays either tonight or Sunday.

"We could not score that goal that could have pushed us on. City play very well too. The way they play, they are one of the best teams in the world.

“Obviously it is not easy when you cannot score a goal to give us extra energy. There are maybe some players who are a bit resigned.”

With Arsenal down in sixth place, the £56m striker admits that they can still play Champions League football next season if they work harder than they are doing at the moment.

“I think obviously the Europa League is a good option to qualify for the Champions League. Now the route is not easy – 10 points from fourth place.

"It is going to be very hard but he will fight till the end. The championship is not finished – this is the Premier League, anything can happen.”

The former Milan, Dijon and Monaco striker joined Borussia Dortmund from Saint-Étienne in 2013 in a deal worth $56 million and scored 98 goals in 144 appearances in all competition.

He won two domestic cup titles in his eight year reign at the club, but never won a league title while he was at the club. He was voted the best player in Africa in 2015, beating Ghana’s André Ayew and Yaya Toure to the award.
