The inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris on Monday, March 19, ordered the immediate withdrawal of personnel attached to private companies and individual, Guardian reports.
NAIJ.com notes that the head of the Nigeria Police Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit, stated that Idris also ordered that all the police SPY number plates should be returned to Force Transport Officer.
Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the Police Service Commission said that more than 150,000 policemen were attached to VIP’s and unauthorised persons in the country.

It was reported that President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2015 directed that police personnel attached to unauthorised persons and VIPs in the country be withdrawn and deployed to confront the security challenges in the nation.
The chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, made the disclosure in Abuja. He said that the commission in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force, had commenced the implementation of the withdrawal of policemen but the exercise was stalled due to lack of fund.
He said: “We could not sustain the enforcement of the order on the withdrawal of policemen attached to unqualified persons in the country because of lack of fund."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, Rasheed Akintunde, said that only 20 percent of policemen were engaged in protecting lives and ensuring peace in the country.
Akintunde made this on Thursday, February 8, while addressing officers and men of the police headquarters in Bayelsa.
He said: “The remaining 80 per cent are just busy providing personal security to some `prominent people’ on guard duties."
The police chief decried the situation where some prominent people in the society seek more than 30 policemen to protect them, while the bulk of work for the members of the force rest on protecting the masses.
