Governor Gaidam of Yobe recruits Egyptian professors, doctors for medical college

- The governor of Yobe state has approved the recruitment of professors, doctors for his newly established higher institution

- The College of Medical Science will have on its staff Egyptian professors and PhD holders

- Some of those recruited are professor of human physiology and 18 graduate assistant

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state has approved recruitment of three professors and two PhD holders from Egypt and 30 other Nigerians for the newly established College of Medical Sciences at the Yobe State University, Damaturu

This was contained in a statement by the director-general of press affairs to the state governor, Abdullahi Bego, Daily Trust reports.

NAIJ.com gathered that the employment of the additional personnel is on permanent and pensionable as well as sabbatical basis.

The statement said that the recruitments cover both academic and non-academic cadres of the College and will ensure its smooth take-off.

According to the statement, those recruited are professor of human physiology, 18 graduate assistants, and 11 laboratory technologists and assistant laboratory technologists.

The statement added: "The public may recall that His Excellency Governor Gaidam had earlier approved the appointment of a provost for the College."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano state chapter, denounced the state government for hiring over 100 doctors and nurses from Egypt to work in hospitals in the state.

The Chairman, Dr Shehi Ali Abubakar in a recent statement described the governor's action as the highest form of insensitivity to the plight of doctors working in the state and the plight of the health sector in general.

He stated: “While the government has been dragging its feet for the past two and a half years in meeting its contractual obligation to doctors salary under CONMESS, due to lack of funds, it suddenly has funds to employ foreign doctors."

Dr Abubakar expressed shock that a doctor in Kano with full knowledge of local diseases was of less value to the government and could not be paid hundred per cent of his salary while an Egyptian doctor could be paid 6000 dollars monthly wages.
