Governor Ortom urges President Buhari to upgrade Exercise Cat Race

- Governor Samuel Ortom says 170,000 people with children of school age constituting 60% have been displaced by the attacks by armed herdsmen

- He calls for compensation for victims of the attacks and rebuilding of destroyed houses and farms

- President Buhari hints at contesting in 2019

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to upgrade Exercise Cat Race to a full military operation in a bid to stop the bloodshed in his state.

Ortom on Monday, March 12, made the appeal at a meeting with the president and stakeholders at the government House in Makurdi, the state capital.

He said 170,000 people with children of school age constituting 60% had been displaced by the attacks by armed herdsmen.

He also called for compensation for victims of the attacks and rebuilding of destroyed houses and farms.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, March 12, gave an indication that he might seek a second term in office in 2019. He said he could return to Benue state to campaign ahead of the 2019 presidential election.

The president reportedly made the statement during his meeting with Benue stakeholders in Markurdi, the state capital, as part of his tour of troubled areas across the country, The Cable reports.

He said he would not make any promise during his visit, but urged the people of Benue to pray for the economy to improve.
