Some policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), in Rivers state have allegedly battered a man for failing to provide a receipt for a phone found on him.
According to a viral video posted on Instablog9ja, the incident took place in Port Harcourt and was recorded by an eyewitness in the area, The Punch reports.

In the video recorded by an eyewitness, three policemen could be seen beating one man identified as Lucky.
A SARS official was also seen battering the man with a machete. The unnamed witness alleged in the footage that Lucky was battered because he failed to produce a receipt for his phone when he was approached by the policemen.
He was reportedly freed only by the intervention of some old men in the area and a payment of N30,000 to the security officials.
Nnamdi Omoni, the Rivers state police public relations officer, informed newsmen that though he would not support any violation of the law, the police would begin investigation on the incident which has gone viral on the internet.
Omoni explained that part of the investigation would reveal the identity of the persons in SARS uniform and the location of the development.

He said: “I have seen it (trending online story), but it is not too clear to me. Much as I cannot defend them; I cannot shield anybody, you cannot conclusively say they are men of SARS until we do a little investigation to ascertain their identity.
“I cannot shield any police officer who commits an offence, but you cannot conclusively say they are SARS until it is proven otherwise.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the senator representing Anambra south senatorial district, Senator Andy Uba, had condemned the violence between youths of Umunze and agents of the State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
Senator Uba stated this on Monday, March 5, in a statement sent to NAIJ.com by his media office. He said he had mandated his constituency office staff to conduct an on the spot assessment of the situation and report back to him.
