- Professor Itse Sagay has threatened to release the details of salaries and allowances of principal officers at the National Assembly
- The presidential chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) said Nigeria will blow up if the details are made available to the public
- According to Sagay, the details released by Senator Shehu Sani on the running cost at NASS is a tip of the iceberg on the true situation of things at the legislature
The chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay, has threatened to release details of the salaries and allowances received by the Senate President and the Speaker of the Hose of Representatives.
The PACAC chairman said the N13.5 million revelation made by Senator Shehu Sani as money received by Senators as running cost is only a tip of the iceberg.
Punch reports that Sagay said Nigerians will be shocked when he releases details of allowances received on monthly basis by the principal officers of the National Assembly.

Sagay said for several years, the principal officers of the National Assembly including the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, the Speaker of the House, his deputy and minority leaders of both chambers, are receiving far more than what Sani revealed.
“There are many things the press doesn’t know yet. If you come to know the allowances that the leadership of the two houses are getting… My God! It will blow up the country. What is the Senate President getting? It is not the ordinary N13 million.
“What does he get as Senate President? What is the leader of the House getting, what is the deputy leader of the House getting? What is the Deputy Senate President getting? What are the minority leaders getting in both houses?
Go and find out. It is an explosive stuff, I tell you. Eventually, I will come out with the figures. I am working on them now. When I am ready, I will come out with them," Sagay said.

The PACAC chairman also condemned the remark by the spokesperson of the Senate, Abdullahi Sabi, that the N13.5 million revelation made by Seantor Sani was already in the public domain.
He said it was hypocritical of the lawmakers to have berated him last year when he released details of their allowances.
Sagay said: “What they released then was their salaries which the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission approved for them. What they are hiding now are the allowances they voted for themselves."
“The salary details released was just about N700,000 but what they voted for themselves is about 20 times that amount. That is the whole point and they were hiding it.
“I came out with the figures last year and they wanted to cut off my neck and now it has come out in the open and Sabi Abdullahi is saying it is nothing new but you were denying it in the past. So, they have a guilty conscience because they know what they are doing is shameful," Sagay added.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that a recent investigation revealed that each member of the House of Representatives earns between N8 million and N12 million as running cost.

A source withing the legislature said the amount received by the lower chamber is because its members are more in number than their colleagues at the upper chamber.
It was gathered that the House of Representatives usually take a slightly lower pay than the senators to enable the funds mapped out for running cost go round.
