Police deny finding Miyeti Allah leader's ID card at scene of deadly clash in Plateau state

- The Nigeria Police, Plateau Command, said they are yet to find an ID card of a leader of Miyetti Allah which was reported missing

- The police said the news that the ID card was found at the scene of a deadly clash was untrue

- That added that the owner of the ID card had earlier reported it missing at a police station

The Nigeria Police Force, Plateau state command, on Sunday, March 18, has denied an earlier report in the media that an identity card belonging to a leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) was found at the scene of a deadly clash.

The police spokesperson said Zakariya Idris, a senior member of MACBAN had earlier reported at the Bassa Divisional Headquarters on Sunday morning that his home was invaded by armed bandits.

The police statement came after the Punch reported that Idris’ ID card was allegedly found at the scene of a deadly clash between Irigwe and Fulani residents in Bassa local government area of Plateau state on Wednesday. Several civilians and security operatives died at the scene of the clash.

The police spokesperson, Tyopev Terna, who spoke to Premium Times, said: “The man whose face appeared on the ID card has reported at the Bassa Division today that his ID card was missing after his house was broken into during an attack. But we have not found the ID card since nobody has brought it to the police.”

A community leader of Irigwe extraction in Bassa LGA alleged that the ID card was found at the scene of an attack and that it had been submitted to the police alongside other items, including mobile telephones, recovered from the attackers. But the police denied receiving such exhibits.

Undie Adie, the Plateau police commissioner also said no such ID card was submitted to the police.

Adie said: “No ID card found at the scene of any attack was brought to my notice."

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the defence headquarters, on Saturday, March 17, assured Nigerians that the troops of the Nigerian Army and other services deployed in Exercise Ayem Akpatuma, also known as Cat Race, were on the alert to arrest the killer herdsmen ravaging Plateau, Kogi and other surrounding states.
