- Ezekwesili said that Senator Shehu Sani's declaration of his and other senators' monthly pay is an answer to the questions many Nigerians have been asking
- She stated that other senators like the Senate president, Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, the speaker of House of Representatives, should publicly declare their salaries to Nigerians
Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education, has reacted to the ongoing debate on the jumbo pay meant for federal lawmakers.
Speaking with The News, a senator, Shehu Sani said he and his colleagues receive N13.5 million monthly as “running cost”, aside a N700,000 monthly consolidated salary and allowances which they also receive. The Senate has since confirmed the jumbo pay.

In a series of tweet on her Twitter handle @obyezeks, Ezekwesili on Monday, March 12, said Senator Sani replied to “what Nigerians have been asking for.”
She explained how she was criticised by the National Assembly on account of her demand for transparency in their financial activities.
She tweeted: “Senator .@ShehuSani has in a rare moment of penance for the financial rascality of our .@nassnigeria done partial DISCLOSURE on their GOOD LIFE at the expense of the POOR. He DISCLOSED some of what WE – Citizens – have long ASKED @bukolasaraki & @YakubDogara to do.

“Five (5) years ago, the 7th .@nassnigeria was so VEXED at me when I challenged them that their SALARIES & ALLOWANCES was about the HIGHEST IN THE WORLD. The then .@NGRSenate and @HouseNGR rose in unison to HAUL INSULTS & THREATS. I responded then.
“@bukolasaraki @YakubDogara & all lawmakers in @nassnigeria @NGRSenate @HouseNGR should REDEEM this promise that their 7th NASS colleagues NEVER KEPT: They accepted my challenge to HOST a Public Hearing on their PAY."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Ezekwesili, the convener of the BringBackOurGirls group, led its members on another peaceful protest on Wednesday, January 24.
NAIJ.com gathered that the protesters were restricted from gaining access to the presidential villa, where they had intended to meet President Muhammadu Buhari to present their letter of protest to him.
