Why only President Buhari is allowed to hold the World Cup

- Muhammadu Buhari is the only Nigerian allowed to touch the World Cup trophy

- The trophy arrived Abuja, Nigeria, and will be leaving through Lagos

- Nigeria will be making her sixth appearance in the tournament

With the arrival of the World Cup trophy in Abuja, Nigeria, only President Muhammadu Buhari has been allowed to touch it.

This is because of FIFA guideline which states that only winners of the tournamentare allowed to have a feel of it.

However another FIFA guideline allows heads of state to handle the official World Cup Trophy.

After the trophy touched down in the capital city, it was heavily guarded as no one was allowed to touch it all through the events held in the state house except for President Buhari.

Buhari touched and carried the trophy at the event at the State House on Wednesday, March, 7.

The trophy will be making its final destination to Lagos before leaving the shores of the country on Saturday, March, 8.

The FIFA World Cup and will touch down in a total of 91 cities in 51 countries across six continents before the final.

The Super Eagles will be participating with 31 other countries in the soccer fiesta in June, and they have been grouped alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in the most difficult pairings of the tournament.

Coach Gernot Rohr recently released a 28-man list for the warm up friendlies against Serbia and Poland respectively which will be played on March 23 and 27 respectively.

The Russia 2018 World Cup will be Nigeria's sixth participation in the world showpiece and their best outing still remains the 1994 edition in the United States.
